About Us
The Lesbian and Gay Psychotherapy Association of Southern California (LAGPA) was established in 1992 as an organization of mental health professionals interested in gay and lesbian clients.

LAGPA members are actively involved in expanding the role of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and marriage, family, and child counselors who serve the greater gay community of Southern California.

While LAGPA is oriented toward mental health professionals, individuals desiring to join LAGPA are not required to be licensed. More >>

  3. Heroes, Healers, and Activists: Healing as Positive Modeling – So much of our focus is outward. At the end of the day, rarely do we say, “I’m exhausted, I’m sick, and I need to be whole. I need healing and wellness. I need Family. I need the very resources I give to others.” No, we say, “More must be done!” We do not spend enough time or energy on ourselves, but rather, we expel our energy capital ever outward. Equality has become the goal, not becoming whole Beings, not self-fulfillment.
  4. LAGPA’s Mentoring Program – Are you a seasoned therapist who would like to give back something to your profession? BUT…you don’t want to attend a lot of meetings, chair committees, or OMG raise money. You don't want to spend hours assembling an annual conference or educational workshops? 17th Annual LGBT Psychotherapy Conference
September 30, 2012 at Antioch University, Culver City, CA

CALL FOR PAPERS

Great news!!! We are proud to announce that our annual psychotherapy conference will be hosted by Antioch University Los Angeles (AULA) and the LGBT Specialization in Clinical Psychology on September 30, 2012. Our keynote speaker will be Diane Anderson-Minshall, executive editor at The Advocate, She Wired, and HIV Plus besides being past editor at Curve and co-founder of the lesbian magazine Girlfriends and other magazines. She is a trans advocate. She is also very concerned about rash of crimes against gay youth as well as the increase in suicides of gay youth—suggesting they may be connected to gay issues being more visible in the mainstream debate. She is a dynamic speaker and will bring much to the Conference.

We are simplifying the workshop submission process. Below is a link to the downloadable application form (besides an attachment of the file). We are asking that you submit a short "concept" application to help us create an exciting program. Once these are reviewed and accepted, then presenters will be asked to complete the longer APA certified application. We are asking for your concept applications immediately; but then you will have months to complete the full application. So put on your thinking caps and submit a "concept" for workshop.

Persons who are selected to present at the Conference will receive significant benefits including: half-off full membership rate in LAGPA (a $60 saving), reduced admission to the Conference (a $120 saving), and can have his or her business card printed in the Conference Program besides appearing on our website and newsletter for one year.

  • Concept Application: details are due April 27, 2012
  • APA Approved Application: If your concept is accepted, you will be asked to complete this application due by July 6, 2012. This is a Word document that you work directly in. Also available as a PDF.

SPONSORSHIP AND ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES

More than 100 professionals attended our conference. What better way to reach this targeted audience than to sponsor or advertise? Attached are the appropriate forms.

CONFERENCE BROCHURE AND REGISTRATION

Once the program for the Conference is set in July, the Conference Brochure and Registration will be finalized. Check back at the end of July. Thanks.
